Conformity Fades

Conformity Fades

Dark radiance pushes
Tired gloom upon
Travelers disoriented
In mists of doubt;

Steps clod loud on
Wooden planks that
Lead to elaborate
Patterns of deception.

Bright brilliance bursts now
Above beyond the barrier,
“Replace caution,” it shouts
“With soulful adventure.”

“What is the cost?” Timid asks;
“Whatever the cost!”the reply.
So rapture stirs courage as
Dreamless conformity fades.

Segovia

Posted on Friday, February 5th, 2010

For those of you who can listen to Segovia, water boiling, and much more, this poem is dedicated. Khaled Hosseni is the author of A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Segovia

Can you hear
The water boil,
A tribute to
Segovia,

The vent fan
On the stove,
Crackling of
Chicken frying,

Steam rising,
Tortellini cooking?
And here I sit
Reading Khalid Hosseni;

Recalling in pause
Heartfelt words of
Undying love –
Still-born it seems

For me tonight –
As water boils
Amidst a tribute to
Segovia.

Solitary on a Beach

Solitary on a Beach

The regularity of gray waves
Reaching shore this winter morn
Stirred memories of past loss;
Walks up mountain paths at sunrise,

In search of understanding – solace,
Cosmic healing amidst heart-groans;
There in retraced steps – an invitation to
Fly horizon-less – descend so deep,

Each gesture touched Source;
Where all was synchronous
To a pattern I had missed earlier,
Except now – solitary on a beach.

Pray for Peace

Posted on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

This poem was inspired by a sign posted outside a local church.

Pray For Peace

Pray for peace;
Bingo on Wednesdays.

Pray for peace;
Best to the family.

Pray for peace;
I wish I could help.

Pray for peace;
I’m busy right now.

Pray for peace;
Where did he go?

Pray for peace;
I didn’t see it happen.

Pray for peace;
What do you want?

Pray for peace;
How to explain?

Pray for peace;
What could I do?

Pray for peace;
I’m getting it now.

Pray for peace;
Wake me more conscious.

Pray for peace;
Forgive me this Wednesday.

Shiver in Expectation

Posted on Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Shiver in Expectation
Would that I could paint
Soft pink billows at dawn
Rising against a backdrop of
Sound surging sea;

Capture on canvas
The chill breeze hinting
Winter’s approach,
Just beyond my memory
Of lingering summer.

But I can’t – just sit in awe,
Praise and am thankful,
Shiver in expectation,
As another day unfolds.
