Scripture: It was Peter who answered. “Lord,” he said, “if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.” Jesus said “Come.” Then, Peter got out of the boat and started walking toward Jesus across the water, but then noticing the wind, he took fright and began to sink. “Lord,” he said, “save me!” Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. “You have so little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And as they got into the boat, the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him, and said, “Truly you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:28-33

Prayer: So quiet this early morning. There is a hum of silence in my heart as I reflect upon Jesus’ words, gazing upon the water flowing peacefully down the canal. Yes, a hum of silence greets me this morning.

Response: How many times have you gotten out of the boat and started walking before you realized what you were doing, and you became frightened. Was it addressing loss and not knowing intuitively how to handle grief? What about the times you decided to forge a new path in life, and hesitated as you second-guessed the decision?

In prayer, you are learning to listen for that “Come,” spoken by the ever-present Lord in your life, guiding who you are and becoming, free of the definition applied by spectators who are more influenced by the doing of life.

This morning and into the afternoon, listen to the Lord’s prompting that just might be especially clear, and inviting to the anxious soul who is working his way along the path of life. Praise God!

All for this morning.
