Meditation — July 11, 2018

Prayer of St. Benedict, the father of Western monasticism: Gracious and Holy Father, give us the wisdom to discover You, the intelligence to understand You, the diligence to seek after You, the patience to wait for You, eyes to behold You, a heart to meditate upon You, and a life to proclaim You through the power of the Spirit of Jesus, our Lord, Amen. (480-547)

Prayer: I embrace the wisdom of St. Benedict who is remembered in services this early morning, reflecting on his inspiration as the water flows north before my window.

Response: His anointed message comes to you from 1500 years in the past, and it is as if he is sitting opposite you in his monastic cowl. Surely, he has caught your attention. Each phrase is worth reflecting upon today and the days following.

Wisdom, intelligence, diligence, patience, eyes to behold, a heart to meditate, and your life to proclaim. What more do you need in the way of encouragement, as they are proclaimed from the depth of silence to the frenzy of this present day.

Begin today to reflect on one element of his prayer, and see who you become in the Lord’s grace. Praise the Lord.

All for this morning.
