Scripture: I rejoiced because they said to me, “We will go up to the house of the LORD.” And now we have set foot within your gates, O Jerusalem. Psalm 122 (of David):1-2

Prayer: I spent nine hours yesterday in my car, driving to and from Northern Virginia to visit my desperately ill friend of many years. This morning, his spouse reported to me that he “went to heaven this morning.” What a blessing/inspiration for me that I rearranged a schedule to be there in his final hours.

Reflection: Do you see the Lord’s hand in the passing of your friend. Consider the impact his death has and will have on all his family and friends, as it does for you. It is as if—and really has—allowed you to witness opening of “the gates of heaven” to observe/experience the jubilation as your dear friend entered, and in a sense planned.

Your friend’s experience and his calm demeanor speaks volumes of his faith when confronted earlier with the medical diagnosis. Pray that those surrounding the funeral bier take note of the blessing that your friend was able to pass on as his most valuable contribution to their and your life experience.

Pray for those who are unable to shed past misfortune, even misdirection, to embrace the Lord’s constant presence in the urgings that you experience during the walk in the at times darkened forest. Praise God!

All for this morning.
