Scripture: Always be joyful, then, in the Lord; I repeat, be joyful. Let your good sense be obvious to everybody. The Lord is near. Never worry about anything; but tell God all your desires of every kind in prayer and petition shot through with gratitude, and the peace of God which is beyond our understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Prayer: Home alone, I was restless last evening. Without much deliberation, I drove two miles to a small restaurant and pub, took a seat at the bar and began to write some reflections in my journal. A couple entered and occupied the seats alongside me and we conversed deeply for about 40 minutes. I was shot through with gratitude and made note of it later in that same journal.

Response: Living alone now and during periods of your life have conditioned you to break out of the isolation of the heart in the company of loved ones or strangers, or in exploring the regions of the heart as you do in your writing.

What a confirmation to receive last evening because you realized down deep that reading would not do it for you. Think also of what the encounter meant to those you met who were experiencing the turmoil of life—but with a smile.

Always be joyful even when the sea of life seems overwhelming as it flows past and seemingly under you without warning. Brilliant is it riding a wave in a kayak, greeting a loved one after an absence, waking to another morning and seeing the sun break through a deep cloud cover. Yes, the Lord is near, especially for you when you can sense the horizon of life. Praise God!

All for this morning.
