Scripture: Jesus replied (to the Samaritan woman): “Whoever drinks this water will be thirsty again; but no one who drinks the water that I shall will ever be thirsty again: the water that I shall give will become a spring of water within, welling up for eternal life.” John 4:13-14

Prayer: Is it the fact that I am almost surrounded by water that these lines of scripture touch me deeply this morning? How often have I been at the well and Jesus approached in the guise of a loved one needing patience and understanding, and sometimes even guidance? I must remember that I am standing at the well and must be vigilant to whomever approaches.

Response: Take note that Jesus is addressing you as well because you too are standing at the well of life, and so often you do not realize it. When is that, you might ask? Note how quickly you swallow the last syllables of your question as you seek to shorten a conversation—or rather listening to someone who seeks a companion, when you rush off on some fruitless mission and leave behind someone who seeks counsel.

Note in the event captured in scripture, Jesus is not seeking a drink as much as a thirsty soul. You can learn from Him in seeking His guidance each day, since you know you can find Him at the well of your heart.

Be refreshed this day by taking some time in relief to consider the deepest meaning of Jesus’ words meant especially for you as you are stationed at the well as He approaches. Praise God!

All for this morning.
