Remember this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to human anger; so do away with all impurities and remnants of evil. Humbly welcome the Word which has been planted in you and can save your souls. James 1:19-21

Quick to listen—what a transition from someone who hardly waited for an interlocutor to complete a sentence before I jumped in with a comment or solution when I began to listen. It is only now that I am learning to listen to companions and in my prayer—eager for the insights and wisdom that prayer yields.

How easy it is to rewind the life-reel and review again the person you were when you inserted your views into a conversation without even allowing someone to complete a thought, or prayed with the solution on the tip of my tongue. Pity, because in so doing you hardly discovered the inner urging of that person across from you; and now you regret the loss, especially when the words were spoken by a loved one.
But it is that reflection that prompts you now to listen to loved ones and strangers encountered, and listening has become essential as well to your prayer in stillness at all hours of the day when words fail you to express the depth of your seeking for wisdom, healing, understanding, and forgiveness.
Celebrate the transformation that is occurring within you. Witness this grace in all your relationships, even those of a casual nature. And thank the Lord for leading you full circle with others—all of whom are walking the life path with questions, trials, doubts, and inquiries. Praise God!
All for this morning.
