What is Loneliness?

Posted on Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

What is Loneliness?

Loneliness is a present feeling,
Not a past reflection or illusion;
Loneliness is silence magnified,
Breathing in a not-fun-tunnel.

Loneliness grips one’s jaw
Unseen without effort,
Yet causes vision to sharpen,
Hearing to heighten each footfall.

Loneliness is an admission
Of need not neediness,
Presence in place of memory,
Communion beyond soliloquy.

Loneliness prods one to seek joy,
To celebrate – even cavort,
Abandon self-indulgence,
Risk – yes risk – rejection.

Loneliness always leads to laughter,
As self-pity to selfless love,
Absorption to service,
Age to sage wisdom.

Loneliness is a boundless grace,
A mysterious soul force,
Resounding deep within,
Indeed struck from love.
