Contemplating Death
Posted on Wednesday, May 6th, 2009
As I Contemplate My Death
As I contemplate my death,
I am focused as playing
Stick-ball on New York streets,
Hitting solidly high above
The sewer-cover second base.
I am peaceful like lying back
In the racing shell after crossing
The finish line –panting,
Hands dragging in cool water,
Oar resting high.
I am curious –anticipating,
Like the breeze rush
Of a first parachute jump
Into a dark nightscape
Beneath a billow opening.
I am trusting as
When uttering that
First I Do in first love,
Listening for her response,
Gentle, soft, warm.
I am loving and loved
By those I leave behind
Just for an instant,
Those I join again,
Him who calls me home.
