In the thunder of the waves,
You are present;
In the gentle northerly breeze,
You touch me;
In the rain mist falling,
You cool my burning heart;
In the pause upon the sand,
You show me comfort.
How could I doubt Your presence,
When I am still?

How Quiet
Six osprey dance on thermals
Three hundred feet above;
In circles they glide whisper-low,
Then rapidly speed upward
Against an ice-blue canvas.
Flat clouds texture-rough
Drift south like waffles
Browning golden
On the rising sun.
How quiet.

Winter Sunset

What else is there to do, but to observe what is happening around us?
Winter Sunset
Heron was hunched
Atop the piling
In a frigid winter wind.
She seemed ready
To launch into
A dance step
As she leaned,
Her weight forward
Onto one leg
Against the gust
That sought to dislodge
Her from the perch.
Black, white, gray –
Her dress shimmered
In the cold blast.
Was she determined
To catch setting sun
This winter eve?
If not, what truth
Was she pondering
In her stillness?
Then she lifted off
On a gust heading north
Up the canal stirred frost.

Melancholy

Melancholy
Melancholy tends to snag the past
As we surf cast in stormy seas;
Creates lists of mind-numbing tasks,
Dreams not realized – loves lost,
Prayers unuttered – faith challenged.
Yet melancholy can be a mile-mark
On a seemingly endless journey;
Prove to be transformational –
The pause before exhilarating flight
Into regions not explored previously.
