Leave The Cell Phone Home
Posted on Saturday, September 15th, 2007
My experience is that a gift of the grieving process is stillness,
that is, if we choose to accept it. In these last years I have
discovered that stillness can be found in what others might
overlook or would characterize as chaos.
The following poem is about stillness, being in the moment of
turbulence while rescuing what had been swept away.
I hope you feel the joy and laughter of the scene and its aftermath.
“Leave The Cell Phone Home”
Thunderous rain storm,
Crackling lightning
Wind force fierce
And then it slowed.
Retrieving deck chairs
Swept into the ferment,
Balanced on still swift water,
I tipped orange ocean kayak.
Me I was adrift –
Paddle, chairs, kayak,
Swimming to shore
In storm aftermath.
What would I have done
Differently in youth, you ask?
Same except now wisdom counseled
Leave the cell phone home.
