About Me

Terry DouglasRaised in The Bronx, New York, I attended Fordham Preparatory and University where I earned a Masters Degree in Russian Studies, and a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature. I served in the United States Air Force before joining the Central Intelligence Agency for which I served in Warsaw, New Delhi, Beirut, and Berlin before resigning to join the Department of Defense.
In the private sector, I headed up a security consulting company that was active in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War, founded my own company that served companies seeking to conduct business abroad, was the academic chair for Intelligence and Space Studies at a university, and most recently journeyed to Afghanistan to assist the fledgling democracy meet the external and internal threats it faces.

The sudden loss of my spouse prompted me to delve into grief in all its applications and served to ground me even deeper in my spiritual journey.

My life revolves around my children, grandchildren, and the close friends that surround me from near and afar. For fun I am raising a pre-teen, write, consult, conduct workshops, and kayak in the Atlantic from my home in Virginia Beach.

I have spent much of the day reading your writings which to understand them has caused me to delve back into my love of philosophy, back to the stillness and comfort I find in nature, and back to the journey of my life.

I must read what you have written carefully bcause I had no knowledge of your Christian mystics, treks in Nepal and adventure in Afghanistan. I have to ponder to find your meaning about grief and recovery within your metaphors, or are they parables to me? This has been an interesting conversation for me.

I more easily understand your poetry, and especially connected to “Bird Hunting on the Bay.”

I tried to write a comment on your blog, but the page did not open. Therefore, I must be honest with you and share that I found your website through my dear friend Linda. A year and a half ago, I lost my husband of thirty-seven years. Knowing you and me Linda suggested that we can be friends.

We may never meet but your writings have given me a thoughtful day during this cacophonous holiday season. Your writngs have also made me search for my place in grieving. Keep writing and sharing your progress because there is worth there certainly for you, and I think for others who step inside what you have to say.

Take time to live in the present and enjoy the day you have as I have enjoyed the day I spent with your writing.

    Hi Terry,
I finally found you on my computer. Yeah!! What kind of workshops do you conduct? I enjoyed glancing over all your stuff. I love the photos…and look forward to future “reviews” of your blog. Thanks for taking the time to do this work, and…I’ll see you later. Chandler

    Terry,
I wish the whole world could tap into your website and it’s beauty, it’s depth and profound insites that can do nothing but deeply effect all that stop and drink in the wisdom and love that pours from your heart thru your writings. Whew! That was a long sentance. Like you writings…that can be compared to drinking from a firehose. You are loved by many.
May God pour His riches blessing over you with such bounty that you can barely absorb them all.
    Vicki
